"I found Rick on the internet and haven’t looked back. He first helped us create a beautiful studio in our heritage listed house. He knew all the right tradespeople for this unique space and only ever engaged polite and high quality workmen. He even took it upon himself to hunt for an antique concrete trough which he actually found and transported back to our place. As we didn’t have time to devote to this level of detail, we totally relied on Rick’s good taste, enthusiasm and conscientiousness to build a light, bright, inspiring wood and stone studio that was in complete sympathy with the rest of the house. When it was time to face our storage issues, he was the only person I called to assist with the design and construction of a substantial barn-inspired shed, followed by the replacement of our entire deck. Rick coordinated the architectural drawings, handled all the council permits, navigated the heritage issues and oversaw the rapid installation of this truly delightful and aesthetically sensitive outbuilding together with a stunning verandah wrapping halfway around the house.
Rick is a consistently generous, kind and friendly person who happily and expertly guided us through this exciting process, and essentially took the pain out of the whole thing. Given his wealth of experience and up front manner, we could fully trust his judgment, even pausing the build at one point when it was clear to him that we were selling ourselves short on space. He went back to the draftsman and council to negotiate extra length for the building and this turned out to be absolutely the right decision. He was always available on the phone when we needed him, he kept the work on schedule and flexibly fit the work around our busy family life. His creative suggestions and practical knowledge resulted in something truly unique, and visually stunning, with unexpected extra storage space which, in the end, was the whole point of the build.
Rick's blend of expertise and creativity, together with his kindness, made him exactly the right person for us. He always listened first and asked enough questions in order to understand what we really wanted, even when we didn’t know what was possible. He never dismissed an idea without thoughtful consideration, and came up with very logical and pleasing solutions. He didn’t push us to do things we weren’t ready for, nor did he move on when our first renovation ended up smaller than we originally intended. I would highly recommend Rick to anyone needing a builder, and we would go straight to him should we need further renovations such as adding a second storey, in the future.
